Creation and Missions (from the Old & New Testament)

As the Lutheran theologian Joseph Sitter puts it “The proper area of theological thought to be nothing less than the whole world, and the creation and indeed the cosmos. Unless theology can penetrate the ordinary human existence, including the care of the earth. It is not an adequate theology for practical life.” 

The Bible has a lot more to say about the land and the rest of creation than we care to admit. Join us on this biblical journey to understand creation and missions. 

Missions At Bartley is organising these workshops in collaboration with Creation Care Singapore.

Our speakers:

1) Swee Kong has served as full-time Children Ministry staff at Hinghwa Methodist Church before serving with Christ for All Children in Perth. Following that, he served in the Scripture Union Western Australia SUPA ministry as a regional staff worker at the Eastern Hills. He worked with local churches in the Eastern Hills to encourage, lead, and train Christians in planting Kids Clubs in schools and holiday camps. He has an Advance Diploma in Ministry from the Baptist Theological Seminary of Western Australia and a Bachelor of Theology from Murdoch University. 

He started his creation care journey in 2014 when he was drawn to the lack of response from the church to the climate crisis. This got him looking to the Bible for answers. God’s first commission to humanity was to care for the rest of creation, which the church seems to have neglected. To many Christians that he has met, caring for nature and the environment has nothing to do with their faith.

2) Hoi Wen currently works in Corporate Environment and Sustainability in the aviation industry, shaping sustainability strategy and transforming the business through enterprise-wide solutions such as climate resilience measures, sustainable procurement, sustainability reporting, green fuels, and carbon accounting.

She founded the first Creation Care Singapore group in 2014 to mobilise Christians to care for God's creation by bearing His image. She also volunteered at OMF for Missional Creation Care research. She has been conducting creation care workshops, nature walks, and Bible studies.
